RTS Athlete Education
At RTS we believe it is important to empower our lifters with knowledge. Knowledge that helps support them to make smart training choices. Below is the base knowledge needed to successfully execute your training. Some of this might be information you are already familiar with, while some of it you may have not ever heard of before. Your coach is there to help support you along the way along with the RTS Training Lab community. This will get you a solid foundation for your training. The page is divided up into the following sections:
- Training Basics
- TRAC
- Advanced Progressions
- RTS Training Lab
- Additional Resources (text based section)
Training Basics
RPE Basics
All RTS programing uses Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) as a way to auto-regulate the training loads. This is to account for the natural fluctuations of strength that occur. One of the main goals of training is to put the correct weight on the bar and perform the correct number of repetitions. The RPE tool allows us to be more accurate in that quest.
Basics of Emerging Strategies
At RTS we use a programming approach that is called Emerging Strategies. This process to allows us to radically individualize the training to meet you where you are at. Not all reps are equal or create the same response to different people. This continues to help us put the right weight on the bar and perform the right number of reps.
TRAC
Executing Training
It's important that we set you for success with executing the sessions. That's the core of the work. Additionally, in order for Emerging Strategies to be effective, it's important to accurately log the training. We're going to show you how to do that here!
TRAC & Settings
TRAC - Training Recovery Assessment Computer. It's a tool we use to help monitor fatigue and recovery. It's application is a bit different with the use of Emerging Strategies than it's original design, so be sure to watch this video for those adjustments. We're also going to cover a few preferences and settings in your training log.
Reporting Basics
Tracking the data is a critical part of the individualization process. As that data gets collected, we have a few reporting features we use to help us look for patterns in your response. A core intent is to follow the trail of athlete response.
Advanced Progressions
Weekly Progressions
Making smart, methodical progressions in load from week to week can make a massive difference in the outcome of a block. Check out these approaches to help set you up for success.
Pivot Blocks
Pivot blocks are used to transition from one development block to the next. They are similar to traditional de-load weeks, but also different enough that require us to look at them a bit differently. Here is more on how we use them.
Self Organizing Technique
At RTS we believe in the Self-Organizing Technique. Not all lifters have the same anatomical considerations. It becomes important to optimize the technique based on the individuals levers. Here's more on that subject.
RTS Training Lab
Mighty Networks
This is the platform we use for hosting the community. In here you can chat with RTS Coaches, RTS Lifters, and other members of the training lab. We encourage discussion here about all things powerlifting. This is a great place to troubleshoot and engage in various training dialogue. This video will show you more about the Mighty Networks platform.
Join CommunityOffice Hours
Office hours is a great way to get personalized support from RTS Coaches and our industry experts. These are live calls that allow for the support to progress in a more conversational manner. This ensures more personalized suggestions to support your efforts in training and/or coaching. Watch this video to learn more about office hours.
Office Hour Recordings
All office hours are recording and are available for play back. You can go back to the beginning of the RTS Training Lab and watch any off them. Here's more on how to find those replays.

RTS Guide to Dealing with Injuries
In addition to the above injury guide. We also highly recommend that you attend one of the physical therapy office hours in the RTS Training Lab. Consulting with those professionals will be highly valuable in the process of recovery and management of any ache/pain/injury.
